War. Russia vs. Ukraine. What's happening? Here's what you need to know...
Well, as of today, at least 50 people have died as a result of a missile strike on a train station in Kramatorsk, Ukraine.
According to officials in Ukraine, Russia has attacked a key evacuation hub and gruesome images show the results at the train station. Thousands are crowded around trains, desperate to escape into safety. The Russian Ministry, however, has denied their involvement in the attack and are calling the accusations a provocation. Evidence from the Pentagon suggests that Russia did indeed fire the missile.
Why is this happening? Putin aims to overrun Ukraine and overturn their government, as a consequence for Ukraine's esire to join the Western defensive alliance NATO. So far, he has failed to capture the capital, Kyiv, and as a result as shifted his focus to the eastern and southern areas in Ukraine.
Putin stated that his goal was to "demilitarize and de-Nazify" Ukraine, though these claims, according to sources, are completely unfounded.
Additionally, although Putin has acknowledged the economic pressure and impact that this war has had on Russia, he has given no indication that he will end the war to loosen the pressure. Sources say that delegators from both sides will be meeting once again in Turkey to discuss matters.
